Adapted from the Rafiki Bible Study on Ruth, these lessons are designed to guide Sunday school teachers through teaching Scripture, allowing them to optimize their preparation time and teach effectively. Each lesson includes step-by-step instructions and scripted notes written and edited by Reformed theologians.

The Sunday school lessons on Ruth focus on God’s providence, sovereignty, and his plan for the redemption of his people. Through Boaz’s redemption of Elimelech’s land and his marriage to Ruth, the story points forward to Jesus Christ, who redeems his people from sin and death and takes the Church as his bride. Each lesson includes step-by-step instructions and scripted notes written and edited by Reformed theologians.

The set contains versions for Adults (high school+), Junior High (7th-8th grade), Primary (3rd-6th grade), and PreK-2nd grade, including ideas for group activities for the children's lessons; and one copy of Iain Duguid's commentary Esther & Ruth (part of the Reformed Expository Commentary series).

In his commentary on Esther and Ruth, Duguid explores the question, "Does God help those who help themselves?" That may seem to be the message of the Books of Esther and Ruth. Some think that Ruth's attractiveness won over Naomi and Boaz. But a closer reading shows an embittered Naomi to have abandoned the Promised Land and God's people. God's grace comes to Naomi unexpectedly, and with it, a depiction of redemption for her people. In Ruth, a gracious and sovereign God works through flawed individuals—unable even to help themselves—to rescue his people and prepare for the coming of Christ.

Iain M. Duguid is professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the author of Ezekiel and the Leaders of Israel, Esther & Ruth, Daniel, Song of Songs in the Reformed Expository Commentary, as well as many other titles.
