About the Rafiki Curriculum & Bible Study

Founded in 1985 by Rosemary Jensen and other like-minded leaders, the Rafiki Foundation exists to educate and disciple Africans, equipping them through Scripture to serve Christ and their communities. For more than 40 years, Rafiki has served the Church in Africa by caring for orphans and impoverished children, equipping educators, providing rich biblical resources, and creating sustainable income opportunities for widows and church women.

As Rafiki Schools were established across Africa, a critical need became clear: excellent, God-glorifying education grounded deeply in Scripture. In response, Rafiki developed two complementary resources—the Rafiki Classical Christian Curriculum and the Rafiki Bible Study—to form students and believers intellectually, spiritually, and theologically.

The Rafiki Classical Christian Curriculum was developed over 18 years to provide an academically rigorous, biblically faithful education rooted in the classical Christian tradition. Designed to equip the children of the Church, it integrates a robust worldview, strong academics, and intentional discipleship.

Alongside this work, Rosemary Jensen led the development of the Rafiki Bible Study—an ambitious, verse-by-verse study of all 66 books of the Bible. Written over 13 years by more than a dozen Reformed theologians and edited by Dr. David Wells, these studies function as accessible commentaries, shaped by Reformed theology and contextualized for African learners. Each lesson includes a doctrinal focus, commentary alongside the biblical text, and thoughtful questions designed to keep students rooted in God’s Word and the fullness of the gospel.

Originally written for adults and later adapted for children, the Rafiki Bible Study has equipped students, teachers, and staff throughout Rafiki’s network. After years of faithful use in Africa, the studies were re-edited for an international audience and released in the United States in 2019.

Together, the Rafiki Curriculum and Bible study reflect a singular commitment to excellence, theological faithfulness, and deep engagement with Scripture, preparing believers of all ages for lives of faithful service to Christ.
