Adapted from the Rafiki Bible Study on Romans, these lessons are designed to guide Sunday school teachers through teaching Scripture, allowing them to optimize their preparation time and teach effectively. Each lesson includes step-by-step instructions and scripted notes written and edited by Reformed theologians.

The Sunday school lessons on Romans focus on core Christian doctrine, moving from God’s wrath and our sin to his grace in our justification and the role of the Holy Spirit in the Christian life. They explore how sin can express itself even through religious belief. The lessons contrast the old Adam of condemnation with the new Adam, Jesus Christ, who brings believers into union with himself. They address the place of the Law in the Christian life and point to the completion of redemption, when creation itself will be liberated. The curriculum also emphasizes God’s sovereignty and his ultimate triumph. Each lesson includes step-by-step instructions and scripted notes written and edited by Reformed theologians.

The set contains versions for Adults (high school+), Junior High (7th-8th grade), Primary (3rd-6th grade), and PreK-2nd grade, including ideas for group activities for the children's lessons; and one copy of R. Kent Hughes' commentary Romans: Righteousness from Heaven (part of the Preaching the Word commentary series).

In his commentary on Romans, R. Kent Hughes surveys the fundamental doctrines of Christianity—themes of justification by faith, freedom from sin, and God’s adoption of sinners and helps the reader to experience the power of Paul’s theological treatise. This book is part of a series of commentaries from Crossway—Preaching the Word—that are written by pastors for pastors, as well as for all who teach or study God’s Word.

R. Kent Hughes (DMin, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) is senior pastor emeritus of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, and former professor of practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hughes is also a founder of the Charles Simeon Trust, which conducts expository preaching conferences throughout North America and worldwide. He serves as the series editor for the Preaching the Word commentary series and is the author or coauthor of many books.
