Overview: In classical education, the study of history is the backbone of the curriculum. By studying history in chronological order and integrating other subjects into this core, students are able to bring order to their understanding of the world and to the ways in which God has worked throughout history to accomplish his glorious purposes and plans. In Grade Level 5, students are taught about historical events, places, and people through actively listening to and reading engaging stories, creating arts and crafts, participating in small group activities, games, and projects, and completing vocabulary exercises. The Grade Level 5 History course broadly surveys world history from AD 1450 through the 1600s and also includes lessons on geography, art, music, literature, and scientific discoveries from those periods in history.

History Teacher Text loosely corresponds to Rafiki’s GL9 History Student Text (included as a Resource Text), chapters 3 and 4. The teacher text includes instructions for preparation, how to use the materials, and a suggested weekly class schedule. Each lesson contains student objectives, biblical worldview integration, a list of needed materials, lesson introduction, lesson vocabulary and definitions, detailed methods for instruction and learning activities, informal assessments, and suggested lesson extensions and modifications. The teacher text also includes colorful art prints as well as reproducible maps and teacher and student resource pages.
