Overview: “The study of mathematics ought to strike a balance between wonder, work, wisdom, and worship.”
Clark, Kevin, and Jain, Ravi Scott. The Liberal Arts Tradition, Revised Edition. Classical Academic Press. Camp Hill, PA. 2019. p. 67.
The goal of Grade Level 3 Maths is to train students to think mathematically. Instruction pursues mastery through systematic sequencing of concepts explored in concrete, pictorial, and abstract terms. Concepts explored include mental math; addition and subtraction up to 1,000 with regrouping; measurement; multiplying by skip counting; use of repeated subtraction to divide; real world story problems; understanding, identifying and simplifying equivalent fractions; comparing fractions; graphic organizers, estimation, place value, number bonds, and bar models.
Each lesson follows the same pattern: calendar, counting, problem of the day, fact practice, conceptual review, new skill instruction, guided and independent practice, and review. Lessons are designed to be taught with minimal aid from student worksheets. Instruction is teacher-driven, inviting active student participation by means of demonstration, discussion, experimentation, and imitation.
Set includes:
Maths Teacher Text, Volumes 1 and 2 | Each lesson includes student objectives, biblical worldview integration, a list of needed materials, assessment, suggestions for lesson extensions or modifications, and interactive scripts for daily lessons. The Methods section guides the teacher through opening review, lesson introduction, guided practice, independent practice, lesson wrap-up, and review. The Teacher Text also includes over 150 post-instruction student worksheets and answer keys.
Includes Unit Semester Review Lessons, found at the end of Volume 2.
Maths Student Worksheets | Text includes over 150 student independent practice worksheets for post-instruction use. Additionally, find activity sheets, fraction strips and cut-outs, number lines, number cards, multiplication fact practice tables through 9, and game cards.
