Overview: In classical education, the study of history is the backbone of the curriculum. By studying history in chronological order and integrating other subjects to this core, students can bring order to their understanding of the world and the ways God has worked throughout history to accomplish his glorious purposes and plans. In Grade Level 3, students are taught about historical events, places, and people through engaging stories, arts and crafts, activities, and projects. The Grade Level 3 History course begins with an overview of the beginnings of civilization in Sumer and the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Assyria, Israel, Babylon, Greece, and Persia; other units cover the history of the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, and the early church, with a focus on the intersections with the biblical history of the same time periods.
History Teacher Text and Resource Text includes guidelines and instructions for scheduling and teacher preparation, explanations for lesson components, and using the resources in the Appendix. Each lesson contains student objectives, biblical worldview integration, a list of needed materials, an introduction, vocabulary words and definitions, detailed methods for instruction and learning activities, informal assessments, and possible lesson extensions and modifications. The GL8 History Student Text is included as a teacher resource.
