Early Childhood Three

Overview: “It is the duty of good education to arrive at wisdom by means of a definite order.” – St. Augustine

The two goals of Early Childhood Three (EC3) are the acquisition of phonics and arithmetic skills and the joy of becoming a life-long learner. Phonics and cursive handwriting along with basic arithmetic skills are taught in an environment rich with the truth of the scriptures and the beauty of literature, science, history, music, and art.

Full set includes:

EC1-3 Art Overview: Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… (Genesis 1:26).

God created us in his image to reflect his character. He loved being the Creator, and because humans are made in his image, we also have the gift of artistic activity and expression. The study of the arts, both its production and history, stimulates the mind and develops creativity.

This EC1-3 Art course is designed to provide students with opportunities to express themselves through the visual arts. The curriculum is designed for anyone who desires to teach it and carefully reads and prepares for each lesson, whether an experienced art teacher or a novice. Background information on artists and art history, visual aids, and clear step-by-step methods and instructions are incorporated into every lesson.

EC1-3 Art Teacher Text (with Art Prints) provides 18 week-long lessons that include art technique, history, and appreciation. Also included is a set of 10 Artists of the Month images and over 100 sturdy art prints for classroom display.

EC3 Lesson Plans contains nine units taught in 40 weekly lesson plans for exploring the beauty of God’s world through the lens of God’s truth. All activities focus on pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills.

EC3 Music Overview: “Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul, on which they mightily fasten, imparting grace.” – Plato, Republic III

The benefits of music and the study of music are numerous—it optimizes brain development, promotes physical coordination, increases cognitive skills, improves social interaction, with a yield of joy and accomplishment. Music offers students many opportunities to grow and flourish as they participate in music-making skills and experiences, analysis through music listening and reading, creativity and musical expression, learn about music history and cultural context, develop their language skills, and are part of an aesthetic community.

EC3 Music Teacher Text includes instruction in melody, rhythm, and movement structure along with experiences in music theory, appreciation, and history. Forty weeks of twice-weekly lessons integrate the essentials of music across the entire curriculum.

EC3 Music Prints, produced on high-quality cardstock, provide images of each of the composers of the month, as well as other images used in various lessons.

EC3 Music audio files, delivered via a USB flash drive, are a curated list of songs and music files used in the curriculum.
